There’s Mexican; there’s Tex Mex; and then there’s Cali-style Mexican. Dorado falls within that Cali realm. That means there’s usually some fish tacos on the menu and – most importantly – there’s the cali burrito, aka a burrito with fries inside. I’ve now been a few times and always go with the burrito – it’s good, thick, and the salsa sides are great additions poured all over the top.

Is it the best taco out there? No, especially not when you live near Spanish Harlem like I do. But what is special about this place is that California burrito. It’s very hard to find a California burrito in NYC and not only do they make it, they make it well. My only gripe is that they offer a shrimp and steak combo burrito on the menu (for about $15.50 vs. the standard $14, I think), but if you want any other combo, you have to pay the full price of an additional protein. I was hoping for halfsies chicken and mushroom for a small up charge…not close to $17. That said, the mushrooms were a great add-on that I’ll probably succumb to again. Overall, a solid takeout/delivery option in the area.
